By @saucesanddips | Creamy Middle Eastern Sesame Sauce
Tahini Sauce is a creamy, nutty, and tangy condiment made from ground sesame paste, lemon juice, and garlic. A cornerstone of Middle Eastern cuisine, it’s perfect with falafel, shawarma, roasted vegetables, or as a dressing for grain bowls and salads.
Ingredients (Makes about 3/4 cup)
- 1/2 cup tahini (sesame paste)
- 1/4 cup cold water (more if needed)
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (optional for richness)
- Pinch of cumin or paprika (optional for flavor twist)
Instructions
1. Whisk the Base
In a bowl, whisk tahini and lemon juice. The mixture will thicken and seize—this is normal.
2. Add Water Slowly
Add cold water a little at a time, whisking vigorously until the sauce loosens and becomes creamy.
3. Season and Adjust
Stir in garlic, salt, and olive oil. Add cumin or paprika if desired. Adjust water for consistency.
