Coffee-Infused Barbecue Sauce

This unique barbecue sauce uses coffee beans to add depth and complexity to the flavor profile, making it perfect for grilled meats or even as a dipping sauce.

Ingredients

1 cup ketchup

1/2 cup brewed coffee (strong)

1/4 cup apple cider vinegar

1/4 cup brown sugar

2 tablespoons molasses

2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

1 tablespoon soy sauce

1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 small onion, finely chopped

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

1 teaspoon ground cumin

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 tablespoon finely ground coffee beans (use a coffee grinder)

Instructions

  1. Brew a strong cup of coffee using high-quality coffee beans. Set aside 1/2 cup of the brewed coffee for the sauce.
  2. In a medium saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until the onion is translucent and the garlic is fragrant, about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in the ketchup, brewed coffee, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, molasses, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, and Dijon mustard. Mix well to combine.
  4. Add the smoked paprika, ground cumin, black pepper, salt, and cayenne pepper (if using). Stir to combine.
  5. Stir in the finely ground coffee beans, ensuring they are well incorporated into the sauce.
  6. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat. Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens to your desired consistency.
  7. Taste the sauce and adjust the seasoning as needed, adding more salt, pepper, or sugar to balance the flavors.
  8. Allow the sauce to cool slightly before transferring it to a jar or airtight container. Store in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.

Usage:

This coffee-infused barbecue sauce is perfect for brushing on ribs, chicken, or steak during the last few minutes of grilling. It can also be used as a marinade or served as a dipping sauce for roasted vegetables, tofu, or french fries.

Enjoy the rich, smoky, and slightly sweet flavor with a hint of coffee that elevates your barbecue experience!
